Coaching Credentials – What Is ICF And MCC?

Coaching is partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process which inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential. In addition to executive coaching, we also provide coaching skills training, and ICF coaching certification. Today we’d like to discuss coach certification and MCC credentialing.

ICF is the International Coaching Federation, the world’s largest organization of professionally trained coaches, and the leading voice for the global coaching community. Founded in 1995, ICF was created to give credibility to an emerging profession; and to give coaches a place to connect with each other. ICF is the membership organization for trained, professional coach practitioners.

ICF Values are professionalism, collaboration, humanity and equity. Professionalism is a commitment to responsibility, respect, integrity, competence, and excellence. Collaboration is the commitment to develop social connection and community building. Humanity includes being humane, kind, compassionate and respectful toward others. Equity reflects the commitment to using a coaching mindset to explore and understand the needs of others, and the practice of equitable processes.

The ICF consists of six branches. These include Professional Coaches, which is the membership organization for trained, professional coach practitioners. Credentials and Standards oversees and manages the credentialing of individual coach practitioners. Coaching Education oversees and manages the accreditation and approval of coaching education providers.

The non-profit/philanthropic piece of the organization is the ICF Foundation, which works to connect and equip professional coaches and organizations. ICF Coaching In Organizations is specifically for businesses and organizations that utilize coaching. The objective is to enhance the market for ICF-Credentialed coaches, and to set high standards for managers and leaders using coaching skills. The ICF Thought Leadership Institute goal is to create and influence the future of coaching; to build and maintain the most comprehensive and high-quality body of knowledge on the art and practice of coaching.

ICF coaching credentials include the Associated Certified Coach, Professional Certified Coach, and Master Certified Coach. Each certification includes increasing levels of training hours and coaching experience. There is only one application path for the MCC Credential. The MCC, Master Certified Coach, is the highest level of certification available in the field of professional coaching.

MCC candidates must complete a minimum of 200 hours of coach-specific education or training, and at least 10 hours of Mentor Coaching. All applicants must demonstrate a set number of hours of coaching experience, and complete the Coach Knowledge Assessment, which will be replaced with the ICF Credentialing Exam on August 1, 2022.

In order to obtain a Master Certified Coach designation, candidates must be evaluated by ICF Assessors, who review two recorded coaching sessions with transcripts submitted by the applicant. Applicants are required to pass this performance to be awarded the MCC credential. The MCC credential provides the highest level of education and competence in professional coaching.

A professional coach can set you on the path to greater personal and professional fulfillment. It can unlock untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership. We at JMC Coach Mastery Academy can help you achieve your goals and unleash your greatness!
